We need all hands on deck for Count Day on Wednesday, October 2. As a reminder, the State of Michigan requires public schools to take an official count of student attendance on two designated days each school year (one in October and the other in February). Public school districts are funded on a per-pupil basis, so attendance on count days is critical. Let’s make it COUNT!

Lapeer Community Schools bond, 2025-26 reconfiguration update LCS Community – As the bond work continues throughout this summer at many Lapeer Community Schools buildings, we want to update you with how the work will coincide with the district’s planning for the reconfiguration that will take place prior to the 2025-26 school year. 2024-25 school year: All elementary buildings are Kindergarten through 5th Grade Rolland-Warner will remain 6th and 7th grade campus Year-round options will remain the same (Turrill, Rolland-Warner) Zemmer will remain 8th and 9th grade campus Lapeer High School will remain 10th through 12th grades CFI will remain Lapeer Community High School Lapeer Virtual Partnership will remain at the Cramton campus 2025-26 school year: All elementary buildings (Lynch, Murphy, Schickler, Turrill) will be Kindergarten through 4th grade Rolland-Warner will transition to 5th and 6th grade campus (Traditional/Year-Round) Year-round options will be offered for Kindergarten through 6th grade (Turrill, Rolland-Warner) Zemmer will transition to 7th and 8th grade campus Lapeer High School will be a traditional 9th grade through 12th grade campus CFI will remain Lapeer Community High School Lapeer Virtual Partnership will remain at the Cramton campus The top priority with our bond work has been safety and security upgrades, as these benefit our entire population and surrounding community. Our new PA systems in all school buildings will have enhanced security features, movable walls at the high school will now be permanent, all door locks are being replaced with new safety features, and all doors are being rekeyed with increased safety measures. We are also in the process of implementing a new visitor management system at all of our building entrances that will scan and vet every individual that wants to enter our buildings. When that process moves further along, we will communicate information about that system and what it entails. Keeping our students and staff safe is an evolving process and our plan is to maintain safety and security initiatives as our utmost priorities across the district at all times. By reconfiguring our elementary buildings to Kindergarten through 4th grade in 2025-26, this gives us the opportunity to have dedicated space for programs such as Physical Education, Art and Music. This will be a major benefit to our youngest student population and the staff that provides service to them. Having 9th graders in the high school building will enable our students to be with their peers and participate more easily in high school programs, including performing arts, extracurricular activities, and athletics, which they currently access at Zemmer. The new multi-purpose room and state-of-the-art science labs at the high school will provide improved and modernized spaces for various instructional activities, enhancing the educational experience for our students. We are excited to share with you more details regarding all of our buildings once finalized. This bond and reconfiguration is a win-win not only for our district, but for the entire Lapeer community. It’s definitely an exciting time to be in Lapeer Community Schools! Sincerely, Matt Wandrie Superintendent

World-renowned professional learning facilitator Donohoo meets with LCS leadership With the 2024-25 school year fast approaching, Lapeer Community Schools leadership and principals took part in a day of professional development Aug. 12 with Jenni Donohoo, Ph.D. Donohoo is a five-time best-selling author and professional learning facilitator with more than 20 years experience. With our LCS group, Donohoo focused on collective efficacy, which refers to the shared belief among a group of individuals in their ability to achieve a common goal. It emphasizes the collaborative efforts of teachers, administrators, and staff to create a positive learning environment and improve student outcomes. Collective efficacy has a profound impact for administrators, not only enhancing their leadership effectiveness but also contributing to a thriving educational system that benefits both educators and students alike. “Jenni reinforced the importance of collective efficacy and how our beliefs impact student learning,” said Michelle Bradford, LCS assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. “She brought an energy to the group that supports our work with teachers and collaboration as we start a new school year.” Donohoo will be presenting in Lapeer later this school year in February and March for additional professional development days with teachers.
