Lake Orion 6, Lapeer 4
Lapeer hosted Lake Orion Monday at Fitzpatrick Field. It was the first game for both teams that saw a lot of action.
Lapeer opened play and held onto the ball early, getting some early opportunities, but as play continued, Lake Orion was able to shake off some early season rust and they began punishing Lapeer for turning over the ball.
They hit the post twice, then scored to go up 1-0. Lapeer’s Morgan Wilcox, answered as she won a ball punted from her keeper Madison White, beating defenders down the field for a breakaway goal.
But Lake Orion came right back and scored three more first-half goals. Leigha Kaake cut the lead to two as she was able to finish a ball first won by Evelyn Hall and then Erin King. 4-2 at the half.
In the second half, it was Wilcox again. She took a diagonal pass from Hall and outpaced the Dragons' defense for her second goal. Lake Orion then returned the favor as they won two loose balls in Lapeer’s box.
Soon after, it was Wilcox again, this time she served a ball to an on-rushing Taylor Morris, who headed in Lapeer’s fourth goal to make it 5-4.
Teams exchanged more opportunities to score, but neither had any more success until the last couple minutes of play when Lake Orion scored the final goal.
Lapeer hosts Flushing Thursday at Fitzpatrick Field before going on Spring Break.

Lightning Strike: Lapeer shuts out Flushing 4-0
Despite a relentless downpour at Fitzpatrick Field on Thursday, the Lapeer Lightning remained electric, putting on a dominant 4-0 performance against the Flushing Raiders.
First Half: Constant Pressure
Lapeer set the tone early, pinning Flushing deep and forcing a series of corner kicks. The pressure paid off when Evelyn Hall fired a sharp cross into the box, finding sophomore Taylor Morris, who buried a clinical volley for the 1-0 lead.
Flushing attempted to claw back with a pair of free kicks, but senior keeper Madison White stood firm. Lapeer nearly doubled the lead before the break, rattling both the post and the crossbar.
Second Half: Pulling Away
The second half began as a balanced tug-of-war until Lapeer’s offense exploded:
The Second Strike: Following a ball served in by Morgan Wilcox and flicked on by Hall, sophomore Payton Gourley capitalized to make it 2-0.
The Breakaway: Wilcox received a clean pass from classmate Ellery Muir, outpaced the Raiders' defense, and slotted home a breakaway goal.
The Finisher: Hall capped off her stellar night by drawing a foul 22 yards out and sinking the subsequent free kick into the back of the net.
Defensive Dominance
While the offense provided the fireworks, the back line was a brick wall. Erin King, Maecyn Kress, Averie Schons, and Avery Fidler were flawless in protection, securing the clean sheet for Madison White.
